We cannot expect the ones suffering abusive experiences online to raise their red flags. Nor can we assume the ones with trapped minds and impoverished cognition due to AI dependence will spontaneously shift to more solid learning skills.
We can’t wait until those at risk with gambling, gaming, bullying, pornography simply decide to revert their doom and break free, let alone in adolescence while they struggle with personality, identity and exposure.
Families and educators – significant others in Vygotsky’s terms – hold a powerful key to open up conversation, encourage teens to explore those negative feelings and be able to trigger healthier responses to unhealthy times.
That is why I have started to elaborate material based on metacognition, digital and media literacy, critical thinking plus a deliberate pursuit of more constructive ways to navigate these trends that have been proved responsible for so much sorrow and trouble among young people
(English) Lessons can be safe zones for whole class exchanges that can raise awareness without the heavy burden of parental authoritative nagging over perils and matters that are evidently beyond their control. We can help them deconconstruct their status quo defying what has become natural and normal about youth culture.
